Florist Adelaide - The Blu Tulip - Corporate Arrangements & Functions

General Flower Care

  • Always use fresh clean water
  • Using flower food will enhance the longevity of flowers
  • Flowers do not like direct sunlight or draughts.
  • Keep fresh flowers away from fruit, as it lets off a gas called ethylene which accelerates the aging process.
  • Most flowers (except for tropicals) prefer cool conditions. Temperature controlled environments may shorten the longevity of flowers.
  • We advise not to store flowers in a household refrigerator as it has a different cooling system to a florist’s cool-room.

For Flower Stems

  • Fill a clean vase with fresh, clean water.
  • Add the flower food to the water, following the instructions on the sachet. This will enhance the longevity of the flowers.
  • With a sharp pair of scissors, cut about 1-2cms off the end of each stem on a sharp angle. NB. Stems should never be broken off as it will shorten the life of the flowers.
  • Remove any leaves on stems that may sit in the water as they will make the water dirty
  • Recut the stems and change the water in the vase every 2 days after this.
  • As lily blooms begin to open, remove the stamen on the inside of the bloom. This does not have to be done, however as the stamen turns fluffy, it can drop and stain surfaces.

For Self Contained Arrangements

  • Add flower food to a container of fresh, clean water, following the instructions on the sachet. This will enhance the longevity of the flowers.
  • Add this water / flower food solution to the arrangement of flowers – at the back of the arrangement where this is a small gap left as a watering hole.
  • Top the arrangement up with this solution every day or second day as required.
  • As lily blooms begin to open, remove the stamen on the inside of the bloom. This does not have to be done, however as the stamen turns fluffy, it can drop and stain surfaces.
