Flower Care

How to make your flowers last longer

Tip 1 – Use a sparkling clean vase.

Bacteria will shorten the lifespan of your flowers. Ensure your vase is sparkling clean before using it for your flowers.

Tip 2 – Make sure your scissors or knife is clean and sharp.

Blunt tools will crush the flower stem reducing its ability to uptake water and deliver it to the flower head. Bacteria will shorten the lifespan of your flowers – ensure all your tools are clean and sanitised.

Tip 3 – Feed your flowers.

Use the flower food we give you – It really works! It contains sugar to feed your flowers, an acidic preservative to balance the PH of the water and a disinfectant to kill any bacteria.

Tip 4 – Remove any foliage that sits below the water line.

When the foliage sits in the water it promotes bacterial growth which in turn will shorten the lifespan of your flowers

Tip 5 – Cut one inch of your flower stems at a 45 degree angle before plunging into water.

DON’T DELAY! This removes bacteria and increases the surface area of the end of the stem which allows for a steady uptake of water all the way to the flower head.

Tip 6 – Keep your fresh flowers away from direct airflow.

Any direct air flow (such as drafts, fans, or air conditioning) will reduce the lifespan of your flowers by dehydration.

Tip 7 – Keep your fresh flowers away from direct sunlight.

Just like your skin, direct sunlight will dehydrate your blooms and promote premature ageing. A well lit room is great but direct sun rays are not.

Tip 8 – Keep fresh flowers away from fruit.

Fresh fruit releases ethylene gas and speeds up the ageing process.

Tip 9 – Give your flowers love!

Change water daily, add flower food, cut stems & remove any expired blooms.
